The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the District of Columbia welcomes you to our website! If you are a Mayflower Descendant and live in Washington, DC and its suburbs, we hope you will consider becoming a member of our Society! If you think you may be a Mayflower descendant, we can offer encouragement, advice, and expertise as you navigate the sometimes difficult task of proving your line of descent. While we can’t do your research for you, we want you to see you succeed.

We are one of fifty-three member societies representing Mayflower descendants in the fifty States, the District of Columbia, Canada, and Europe. Members of the Mayflower Society belong to one (or more) of the member societies and to the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, which was founded at Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1897. The DC Mayflower Society was chartered in 1898 and, since then, has been a welcoming home to more than 2,400 members who have proven their descent from one or more of the 102 passengers who sailed from Plymouth, England to New England in the fall of 1620 aboard the Mayflower. After a harrowing voyage across the Atlantic, half of their small group perished to disease and starvation during the first year. Yet, 51 survivors of the original 102 passengers successfully established Plymouth Colony.

Are you a Mayflower descendant? One estimate by well known historian Caleb Johnson is that there are nearly twenty million Mayflower descendants living today.

The history of the Mayflower and its passengers is an American story that links past to present through the family histories of some 90,000 past and present members of the Mayflower Society. If you are a Mayflower descendant and live in the metro DC area (including the Maryland and Virginia suburbs) or if you are a member who is based in the DC area for an extended period and would like to join our Society, we would be happy to welcome you as a member.
